Responsibilities:

Position purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (registered and licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant) to join our mobile medical unit on a full time basis year round. The provider is expected to deliver harm reduction services, wound care, and comprehensive medical and mental health care to unhoused and transitional living populations as part of an interprofessional team. In this role, the provider will work collaboratively with healthcare faculty, students, and community partners to help address the diverse healthcare needs of underserved populations and help connect them with needed resources. Experience treating and working with patients who actively have or have a history of substance use disorder and/or experience working with underserved populations is preferred.

Essential Functions:

Provide high-quality medical and mental health assessments, consistent with training and current acceptable practice and protocols, including diagnoses and treatment for patients in a mobile setting. Perform basic procedures such as wound management, dressing changes, administering vaccines, phlebotomy, and CLIA-waived tests such as blood glucose, urinalysis, TB skin tests, etc. Collaborate with faculty to supervise students to enhance clinical education and provide hands-on learning experiences for students assisting the vulnerable through a harm reduction mobile unit. Respond to emergency situations, both of which include mental health and physical issues, such as crisis intervention. Engage with community partners to decrease barriers to care for patients and maintain accurate and confidential patient records and documentation. Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Able to quickly identify issues when working on the mobile unit with patients, faculty and students, to obtain relevant information, make decisions, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions if needed. Quickly interpret and seeks information on patients, using independent reasoning to diagnose the root cause of situations or issues, identifies and tests solutions and thinks beyond what is typical or customary. Uses information to determine benefits and impact in making decision and/or recommendations. Able to coordinate and administer patient care, project activities and protocols. Ability to manage resources, monitor activities, and assess risks and issues associated with the project. Communicate well by presenting information to individuals or groups. Can convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic databases and software, along with documenting in an electronic medical record. Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Required Education

Doctoral or masters degree as advanced clinical practitioner (nurse practitioner or physician assistant) Licensed to practice as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the state of TN

Required Experience

Minimum of 1- 3 years, preference of 4 years treating and working with underserved and unhoused populations who have a history of substance use disorder and/or mental health disorders. Also prefer someone who has experience in primary care and wound management.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
