LOCATION
On-site in a growing municipality in central North Carolina, located roughly one hour east of Charlotte.

WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT
Serves as the City’s top planning official, guiding zoning, land use, development, and long-range strategic planning initiatives. Advises senior leaders and boards on development policies, ordinances, and growth challenges facing the municipality. Engages directly with citizens, developers, architects, and engineers to support thoughtful community development. Leads the review and enhancement of zoning ordinances, appearance standards, subdivision regulations, and historic preservation efforts. Manages grant opportunities, department operations, planning board agendas, and public-facing development concerns.
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS
Bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, public administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Extensive experience in municipal, county, or regional planning, including both current and long-range projects. Strong working knowledge of zoning laws, floodplain regulation, subdivision codes, and land use principles. Experience advising government boards or councils and working with community groups and technical teams. AICP certification and/or Floodplain Management Certification strongly preferred, or willingness to obtain.
