Overview
This position manages multiple production units and/or departments within the facility. It has overall responsibility for the performance and continuity of supply from manufacturing areas, including safety, quality, management of change, discipline, and operating budget. The role involves directing unit supervisors, area engineers, and logistics personnel, and coordinating with other groups to improve facility operations. The position may supervise a team of up to 40 employees.
Responsibilities
Promote and lead plant safety culture and EHS efforts.
Supervise reports, conduct employee evaluations, and plan development and training. Address employee issues independently or with HR support.
Consult daily with operations personnel to discuss operational issues and resource priorities.
Coordinate with tech service and logistics teams on short- and long-term activities.
Interface with Business Group, R&D, Manufacturing, Process Technology, and Logistics on customer service, quality, new products, projects, and distribution.
Set goals for the area and monitor progress.
Manage annual budgets for the area and units, monitor costs and variances, and promote cost improvement initiatives.
Provide coverage for the Operations Manager and unit supervisor responsibilities as needed.
Lead EHS initiatives, including incident investigations, root cause analysis, housekeeping, and safety meetings.
Lead quality improvement initiatives, monitor process deviations, and oversee daily quality of production.
Assist in labor relations issues with union representatives.
Develop and implement plans for new product introductions with a focus on First Time Right.
Coordinate with Logistics and Maintenance for unit turnarounds.
Review safety and operability of capital projects and request minor capital expenditures.
Coordinate the site's Management of Change process.
Recruit and mentor plant tech service engineers and logistics personnel.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
7-10 years of relevant experience in the chemical industry.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
Master's degree in a technical field.
Over 10 years of relevant experience.
