About the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office
The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) is a Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) responsible for the acceleration of the adoption of data, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate decision advantage across the Department of Defense (DoD). The CDAO enables the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components, to swiftly introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions.
The CDAO has three broad goals of enabling, speeding, and scaling adoption of AI in the DoD. Rapid and scalable adoption of AI is a critical capability for DoD support in national security, and the AI Rapid Capabilities Cell (AIRCC) is primed to support the CDAO's goals. The AIRCC's role in facilitating the rapid adoption of frontier AI and autonomy will enable the CDAO's other objectives by informing future investments into policies, partnership, and infrastructure, enabling the adoption of AI at scale throughout the department.
As Program Manager for Generative AI you will lead a critical frontier AI experimentation pilot focused on developing and integrating cutting-edge AI capabilities into DoD workflows. This role involves working closely with leading frontier AI labs and DoD operational users to prototype frontier AI capabilities and evaluate their operational effectiveness in a series of structured experiments.
This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. The selected candidate for this position is required to sit onsite in Washington, DC. The pay grade for this position is GG-0801/0854/1550-15.

What you'll do here: Lead the acquisition and development of software technologies to pilot, experiment, and deploy Frontier AI into critical DoD workflows. Manage, budget, plan, and execute a large software development program involving multiple industry software development teams. Provide subject matter expertise to inform best practices, guidance, and direction on DoD applications of generative and traditional AI technologies. Provides subject matter expertise to advise DoD partners on application of policy, best practices, standards, principles, theories, and techniques in order to ensure successful and effective development, experimentation, assurance, and fielding of generative and traditional AI applications. Work across a diverse and cross-functional team of technical experts, operational end-users, software developers, and DoD partners to deliver capability that directly supports DoD missions. Education Requirements
Computer Scientist (GG-1550):
Bachelor's degree in computer science bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Computer Engineer (GG-0854):
To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
General Engineer (GG-0801) : To be acceptable, the program must: the degree program must include differential and integral calculus, and courses in at least five of the following areas of engineering science or physics: statics and dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, nature and properties of materials. The degree program must be accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field may be acceptable if the applicant has at least one year of professional engineering experience. Related scientific fields include: engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, and geology
