Responsibilities

Summary As the Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the architecture, planning, implementation, and maintenance of database systems including strategic database design, planning, and execution, with emphasis on Azure technologies, working with development teams to design and implement complex database layouts and strategies. In this role you will also be responsible for performance monitoring, and tuning. You will also be expected to apply new technologies and techniques to improve production systems, capacity planning, data integrity, backup and recovery solutions, and database security.

To be effective you will be expected to work closely with a number of internal teams, and serve as the primary source for strategic database architecture, design, planning and implementation; regularly working with development to improve production systems and implement new database layouts and strategies.

As a top candidate you will possess a well-rounded and highly technical background with emphasis on design and performance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

SDLC and Production Database Maintenance •Software Development Life Cycle deployment, implementation and maintenance •Database Security •Database Change Management •Transition changes between development, QC and Production Environments •Create database and schedule backup, write TSQL, Capacity Planning and monitoring of the database and other activities as assigned •Data modeling, logical and physical database design

Database Tuning •Review data models to ensure optimal database performance •Performance tuning

Project Work as Needed •Work on various projects as directed as part of the development team

Cloud Database Architecture and Security •Research and provide guidance on new database technologies implementation

Mentoring •Work with development to communicate the best database practices

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Math or technical field or equivalent combined work experience •2+ years working with relational database systems •2+ years Database Design experience •Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and newer •Azure SQL - Experience with SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines •Experience working in a high demand 24x7 web environment (rotation 1 week/month) •Experience writing, optimizing, and supporting T-SQL •Experience with T-SQL execution plans •Experience identifying and proposing solutions to performance problems •Experience with performance tuning tools •Experience with Azure Automation Runbooks and PowerShell •Experience with SQL Server Query Store •Experience with SQL Server Extended Events •Experience creating and enforcing data and database coding standards •Experience with Database design/Data Modeling

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: •MySQL experience a plus •Experience working with data security preferred •Data Warehousing experience - NICE TO HAVE •Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) is preferred •Ability to create technical documentation •Ability to see industry trends as they apply to databases •Ability to work across functional groups, development, operations, configuration management, end users, and program managers •Ability to work with cross-functional teams and with multiple projects

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York State, New York City, Vermont, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $95,000 - $105,000.
