Watauga Gertrude Tarpley Health Center Job Description: Job Summary: The [Clinic] Medical Director provides leadership and administrative oversight of the day-to-day operations of their respective area of operations, including APPs. Responsibilities include schedule development, template management, daily clinical management, provider engagement, patient experience, and quality improvement. The Medical Director works in partnership with physicians/providers, Vice Chair of [Area], and Practice Manager, sharing communications regarding outpatient clinical activities, including best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and protocols. The role fosters a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement among care teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Performance Assigns clinical coverage to ensure timely access for patients, aligning with hospital and Acclaim expectations. Works with Practice Managers to improve efficiencies in care and performance. Oversees distribution of clinical work, template management, patient access, and experience. Serves as liaison with physicians/providers to maintain high standards of clinical services and patient-centered care. Communicates needs for physician/provider integration and performance improvements.
People Performance
Addresses team dynamics or behavioral issues with Vice Chair and/or Chair. Monitors and communicates with Vice Chair/Chair regarding provider performance. Participates in provider annual performance appraisals. Assists in recruiting efforts for department staffing.
Academic and Educational Activities
Supports education and professional development of medical students, residents, and fellows through mentoring.
Financial Performance and Growth Strategies
Collaborates with Vice Chair to develop and implement growth strategies. Estimates future resource needs. Participates in strategic planning to improve practice performance. Enhances patient access and builds referral community relationships.
Quality and Risk
Monitors quality and satisfaction metrics. Ensures compliance with federal and state directives. Communicates policies and standards to physicians/providers.
Community Engagement
Participates in community programs and public relations activities.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy from an accredited institution. Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, with eligibility for Texas licensure. Minimum of three years leadership experience in a large healthcare setting. Texas Medical License.
Preferred Qualifications: Leadership experience or potential.
Leadership Skills and Competencies: Excellent communication, responsiveness, and collaboration skills. Ability to motivate and develop staff. Political acumen and stakeholder management skills. Personal integrity and professionalism.
