Welder/Fitter
Roben Manufacturing, Inc. has immediate long-term career opportunities for an experienced Welder/Fitter to work in an ASME code certified shop. Layout, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products preparatory to welding per ASME code specifications that apply to pressure vessel and heat exchanger fabrication. This position requires experience in MIG, TIG and/or SAW welding as well as grinding. The position provides excellent hourly rates, bonus, benefits, and possible overtime as well as career growth. Candidates applying must: understand and apply welding techniques; work quickly and skillfully with the hands; accept responsibility for the work performed; visualize what the finished product should look like; operate welding equipment with skill.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and execute project assignments and develop techniques for fit up of shells, nozzles, heads, tubesheets and related components;
- Align parts, using jack, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammer;
- Move parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane;
- Mark reference points onto floor or face block and transposes them to workpiece, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone;
- Give directions to welder to build up low spots or short pieces with weld;
- Heat treat parts with acetylene torch;
- Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledge, hand torch, or straightening press;
- Remove high spots and cuts bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torch;
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture;
- Examines blueprints and plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, weld shrinkage, machining, and metal thickness;
- Tack welds fitted parts together;
- Edge preparation - Prepare, carbon arc, grind, and clean product to be welded;
- Weld using MIG, TIG and SAW processed per ASME code per engineering drawing;
- Weld in flat and vertical planes (all position welding);
- Use disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding;
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications;
- Grind or clean weld joint of work piece; and,
- Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
- Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keep records of hours logged to the jobs;
- Keep work area clean and safe / Follow all safe work practices;
- Attend work on the schedule established by Roben and without excessive absenteeism+;
- Access area to be welded by climbing ladder or scaffolding, if needed;
- Ability lift more than 50 pounds; and,
- Be able to stand on feet for 10 hours at a time & be able to enter confined spaces for up to 10 hours at a time.
Qualification Requirements:
- Able to interpret blueprints and understand welding symbols;
- Able to interpret welding procedures and basic measurement computations;
- Minimum of 2 years fit up experience with knowledge of TIG, MIG and SAW processes;
- Minimum of 1 year experience with ASME Code Manufacturing (Preferred);
- Able to pass NDT Inspections for Liquid Penetrant and Radiographic Testing;
- Must be able to weld plate in 1G, 2G and 3G positions for test plates;
- Experience welding stainless steel and nickel alloys;
- Ability to operate equipment (i.e., burning torches, grinders, cranes, forklifts, etc.);
- Good verbal communication skills; and,
- Work with safety and ethics.
Physical Requirements: Frequent kneeling, standing, pushing, and lifting of objects weighing at least 35 pounds.
Job Type: Full Time
Pay: $20.00 - $31.00 per hour
