Women's Health Practitioner

Open Door is seeking a Women's Health Practitioner to work in our Port Chester, NY location. This role specializes in outpatient gynecology services in women's health and a passion for providing comprehensive care to women of all ages. This role involves delivering a wide range of services, including but not limited to family planning, well women care, cancer screenings, fertility, and infertility counseling, consultations from primary care colleagues, procedures such as Nexplanon and IUD insertions and removals, and colposcopies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Family Planning Counseling
Provide personalized family planning counseling to individuals, including contraceptive options, fertility awareness methods, and pre-conception advice. Address concerns, preferences, and educate patients on potential risks and benefits.
Well Women Care
Perform thorough well women exams and general health assessments. Educate patients on maintaining optimal reproductive and overall health.
Pap Smears and Pelvic Exams
Conduct pap smears and pelvic exams to screen for cervical cancer, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other gynecological conditions. Ensure accurate sample collection and follow-up care.
Fertility and Infertility Counseling
Assist patients with fertility and infertility concerns, discussing treatment options, diagnostic tests, and lifestyle modifications. Provide emotional support throughout the reproductive journey.
Consultations from Primary Care Colleagues
Collaborate with primary care colleagues to provide expert advice on women's health concerns, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care for patients with complex medical needs.
Procedures
Perform a variety of procedures, including Nexplanon and IUD insertions and removals, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. Adhere to best practices and infection control protocols.
Colposcopies
Conduct colposcopies to evaluate abnormal cervical cytology results and provide accurate diagnoses. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed to determine appropriate treatment plans.
Patient Education
Educate patients about reproductive health, contraception, STI prevention, guideline-recommended cancer screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices. Provide clear instructions for at-home care and follow-up appointments.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records, documenting patient encounters, assessments, treatments, and follow-up plans.
Continuing Education
Stay current with the latest advancements in women's health, gynecology, and related fields through ongoing professional development and participation in relevant training opportunities.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid New York State licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
- Prior experience in outpatient gynecology services, family planning, and reproductive health
- Proficiency in performing pap smears, pelvic exams, and gynecological procedures, including Nexplanon and IUD insertions/removals
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare colleagues
- Ability to provide patient-centered care with empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity
- Detail-oriented approach to documentation and patient record-keeping within electronic medical records systems
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of women's health
- Licensed and currently registered and qualified to write prescriptions
- 2+ years of experience in Women's Health preferred
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
- Good judgment and decision-making ability
- Resourceful, responsible, flexible, and objective
- Familiarity with community health practice and knowledge of administrative policies and procedures. Experience in community health highly desirable
- Ability to function effectively in emergency situations
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Demonstrates ability to function in a culturally sensitive manner within organization's philosophy and mission
