Genesis is seeking a skilled Naval Architect with Foundation Analysis experience to join our dynamic team in the marine and shipbuilding industry. This is an on-site opportunity in Chesapeake, VA.
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Naval Architect with strong expertise in structural foundation analysis to support advanced marine and shipbuilding projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing and analyzing foundations for shipboard equipment, heavy machinery, and support structures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and classification society standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform foundation design and analysis for shipboard systems, heavy machinery, and structural supports.
- Conduct structural assessments for static, dynamic, and shock loads in a marine environment.
- Develop and review detailed engineering calculations, finite element models, and design reports.
- Ensure designs meet ABS, and US Navy requirements.
- Collaborate closely with structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and production teams to integrate foundation designs into vessel layouts.
- Prepare and review 2D/3D design drawings and fabrication specifications.
- Support ship trials, inspections, and onboard surveys to verify foundation integrity and installation quality.
- Provide technical expertise during the design, construction, and modification phases of vessels.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to optimization of ship structure for performance and cost efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience , with significant time spent in marine foundation analysis and design .
- Proficiency in structural and naval architecture analysis tools (e.g., Rhino, GHS, AutoCAD, ShipConstructor ).
- Strong knowledge of classification society rules and government/military standards.
- Familiarity with vibration, shock, and noise analysis for marine foundations.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in shipyard and vessel environments, with occasional travel for project needs.
- Experience with foundations for propulsion systems
- Familiarity with stability, weight distribution, and hull-structure integration related to foundation placement.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) in marine applications.
