Our client is hiring a Horizontal Boring Mill Operator to support precision machining operations in their manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with large workpieces, close-tolerance boring, and setup procedures. You will contribute to the mission of producing high-quality hydraulic components and custom fabrications with integrity and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC horizontal boring mills, including facing heads and rotary tables
- Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, GD&T symbols, and machining drawings
- Align and secure fixtures, jigs, and workpieces using hoists, clamps, and micrometer-level measurements
- Measure finished parts using precision instruments (dial indicators, bore gauges, CMM, etc.) to verify tolerances
- Document machining operations, adjustments, and inspection results for traceability and quality control
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and engineers to optimize part design for manufacturability
- Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine lubrication, coolant checks, and basic maintenance
- Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and lock-out/tag-out procedures to uphold a safe work environment
Qualifications
- 3–5 years experience operating horizontal boring mills (G&L, Toshiba, or similar platforms preferred)
- Familiarity with hydraulic components, large weldments, or heavy steel fabrication
- Proficient in blueprint reading and machine setup
- Experience with CNC conversational programming (e.g., Fanuc or Heidenhain) is a plus
- Strong understanding of shop math, trigonometry, and spatial reasoning
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate overhead cranes and forklifts
- Comfortable standing, bending, and moving for extended periods
- Must be able to handle large, irregularly shaped parts and heavy tooling safely
