Attendance Coordinator

Supervisor: Director of Assessment and Accountability Job Goals: To coordinate attendance and truancy efforts at assigned schools. To develop, implement and maintain plans to address attendance and truancy issues in assigned schools. To establish and develop collaborative relationships between schools and parents to develop prevention/intervention strategies, monitor student progress, and make referrals as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Education or Social Services related field At least 3 years' experience in education or social services related field, preferred. Must possess excellent assessment, case management, interpersonal and communication/listening skills. Must be able to work with minimum daily supervision, while keeping administrators abreast of activities. Must possess the ability to work with highly complex and confrontational/emotional situations in a wide variety of settings. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead across multiple settings and to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups. Proficiency in oral and written communication with the ability to produce and lead presentations through various data sources, effectively present information in front of groups, and engage audiences. Ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to effectively prioritize tasks and assignments. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require. Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Assists in the coordination of the referral process and with reporting attendance issues at assigned schools. Visits the homes of students with attendance problems, providing guidance to parents on how they can assist in improving student attendance and academic success. Advises parents and students on the necessity for regular attendance, providing information about State requirements and school district rules and regulations. Develops, establishes, and coordinates community resource contacts. Maintains information systems on available community resources for use by schools and families. Reviews referrals and determines the direction and level of involvement necessary for corrective change in attendance. Collaborates with school staff to develop interventions for students who are truant and develops individualized service plans to improve attendance. Acts as a resource to parents, administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and other school personnel regarding attendance programs, policies, and laws. Collaborates with school counselors and administrative personnel to identify any barriers to attendance and assess individual student needs in regards to attendance. Serves as a liaison between schools and local agencies regarding truancy. Organizes and leads professional development opportunities on matters pertaining to attendance. Presents data and information to groups as necessary. Collaborates with principals, school personnel, district employees to identify and eliminate barriers to student attendance. Maintains necessary records and prepares related reports. Compiles and evaluates data, prepares analysis, reports and recommendations regarding school attendance and truancy. Assists with implementing truancy prevention programs and recommends strategies to support and improve regular school attendance (i.e.: incentives, peer groups, recognitions). Maintains confidentiality regarding student records and school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Models and maintains high ethical standards. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member. Efficiently uses time and conserves system resources. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s). Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
