This job opening is for one Survey Specailist I, II or III depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Survey Specialist I - B18 | $45,521 - $71,055 yearly

Survey Specialist II - B19 | $48,244 - $76,028 yearly

Survey Specialist III - B20 | $51,158 - $81,351 yearly

Position Description

Provides technical expertise and advice on surveying projects and/or performs specialized surveying work under the supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or licensed Professional Engineer. Work usually requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Survey Specialist I:

Coordinates, schedules, and/or conducts technical geodetic and satellite survey which require the use of special high-accuracy technique for mapping projects and engineering related functions. Ensures safety equipment and traffic control devices are set up correctly. Maintains complex electronic equipment Monitors and reviews work performance of contracted survey work. Obtains, processes, and analyzes raw field survey date collected from electronic survey equipment and/or GPS. Performs preliminary site reconnaissance to decide project layout. Reads and interprets survey maps and construction plans. Secure maps, plans and other information for survey projects Takes filed notes, verifies accuracy of field notes, performs necessary calculations, uses software programs to determine coordinates, draws plots and documents work in the field diary. In addition to the above

Coordinates and schedules work for photogrammetry and aerial mapping surveys Meets with property owners and utility companies to brief them on procedures when surveying near or on their property Prepares presentation using drafting, design and presentation software programs Reviews survey job assignments, coordinates with other sections or district/contracted survey parties and monitors survey projects to ensure compliance with project specifications. Schedules survey parties to check previous survey work Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Survey Specialist III

In addition to the above

Performs audits and quality control/quality assurance of projects Trains and instructs other survey personnel Provides guidance to contracted survey parties and monitors operations Coordinates with and assists other sections as requested Serves as a project leader and reviews survey job assignments, coordinates information with district/contracted survey parties and monitors survey projects to ensure compliance with project specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:

Education : High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience :

Survey Specialist I: 1 year surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience.

Survey Specialist II: 2 year surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience.

Survey Specialist III: 3 year surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience.

(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Certification as Surveyor in Training (SIT) by the State of Texas may substitute for experience. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basi s. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
