Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing and managing programs that ensure employee safety, minimize environmental impact, and support the sustainability goals of our sites. This includes reducing carbon emissions, achieving zero waste to landfill, and adopting renewable resources. The role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting continuous improvements aligned with the company's global environmental commitments. Responsibilities Create and maintain EHS&S programs that support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations, including hazard communication, waste management, stormwater, sewer discharge, air emissions, and recycling. Lead initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, and landfill waste through improved resource efficiency and material reuse. Collaborate across departments to support renewable energy integration, conduct energy audits, and implement low-impact materials. Manage and document all waste and recycling streams; identify opportunities to expand circular economy practices. Collect, analyze, and report sustainability metrics, including carbon footprint, waste diversion, and energy usage. Deliver and refine training programs on safety and sustainability for employees, contractors, and visitors. Perform routine workplace and environmental inspections, identifying areas for improvement. Support the development and delivery of technical training for safe and efficient equipment operation. Investigate incidents and near misses; identify root causes and lead corrective actions focused on safety and environmental protection. Act as the site's main contact for corporate sustainability and environmental health teams; stay informed on evolving regulations and industry trends. Encourage a culture of accountability and ownership around safety and environmental goals throughout the organization. Design and implement campaigns and recognition initiatives that highlight sustainability achievements and foster employee engagement. Essential Skills Safety, EHS, Health & Safety, OSHA, OSHA 30, Compliance, Audit, Site Safety, Safety Program, Hazardous Waste, Environmental Safety, Safety Procedures, Safety Training, EHS Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Auditing, Reporting, EPA, GMP, OSHA Regulation. Additional Skills & Qualifications 2-3 years of progressive experience in EHS or sustainability roles within a manufacturing or industrial setting. Solid knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability frameworks (e.g., GHG Protocol, ESG reporting). Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to track, interpret, and report data related to carbon footprint, energy use, waste, and recycling. Demonstrated ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams toward a shared vision for sustainability. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAP, sustainability reporting platforms, or EHS software is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to deliver effective training and reports to all organizational levels. Occasionally, the team member may be required to work in environments that are hot, dusty, or confined. In such cases, additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will be necessary.
