The duties require the use of tact and judgment in the care and treatment of patients. May assist in the supervision of non-professional staff. Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the nursing department. Performs related duties as required. Demonstrates proficient knowledge in the treatment of patients requiring nursing care. Uses available diagnostic results and other information to make accurate evaluations. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases and uses available resources in performing the nursing process. Performs timely, comprehensive, and accurate reevaluations and documentation at regular intervals. Reevaluates when a significant change occurs in the patient's condition and when otherwise warranted. Is considerate of patients' privacy during the evaluation process. Contributes to an individualized and appropriate plan of care delineating measurable patient care goals. Contributes to the plan of care by making necessary changes as the patient's condition indicates. Bases care decisions on resident needs and care priorities. Monitors patient outcomes. Monitors continued care needs for discharge and coordinates resources to meet post-institutional requirements. Collaborates, as appropriate, with care managers, physicians, and other clinical disciplines in planning interventions to meet patient and family needs. Ability to work in surroundings with a degree of dust and noise without undue discomfort. Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend, and stretch. Ability to read, write, and interpret documents. Ability to sit for long periods of time at a desk to perform job functions. Ability to stand for long periods of time at the required patient bedside and/or procedural areas. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers. May be required to handle, dispose of, and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials. May be required to operate and clean equipment. May be required to assist in lifting patients onto or out of exam beds or procedure stations. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue, but potential for exposure exists. Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing or completion of equivalent study in an approved program in professional nursing is required.
