The Engineer II
OSP performs applied research, development, and design of underground OSP conduit infrastructure and fiber optic cabling. The Main Responsibilities
Perform applied research, development, and design of underground Outside Plant conduit infrastructure and fiber optic cabling. Manage and coordinate OSP fiber projects from design through As-Built delivery. Work includes design, permitting, and field decisions applicable to OSP construction projects. Perform survey work, schedule planning and implementation, and quality control of permit drawings, construction drawings, and As-Builts. Review inspection reports and redline changes. Review, analyze, and resolve field construction problems and discrepancies. Coordinate subcontractors, materials, inspectors, tools, and equipment to complete projects on schedule and within budget. Communicate verbally with construction subcontractors regarding proper procedures for placement outside cable plant. Provide interpretation of plans, detail sheets, and specifications for subcontractors and inspectors. Prepare applications and drawings for right-of-way and construction permits. Perform quality control of drawings and As-Builts prepared by computer-aided design (CAD) personnel. Make running line changes in accordance with (IAW) local regulations (e.g., city, county, state, railroads). Analyze Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) traces, evaluate characteristics of fiber, and document test results. Handle complex engineering assignments. Interface with OSP installers, locators, project managers, inspectors, and permit authorities to complete comprehensive packages with sufficient detail to allow future use in maintenance and new construction activities. Provide technical expertise on OSP projects. Create legible drawings in a format suitable for drafting. Read complex roadway plans and construction drawings. Excavate handholds if required. Splice and test fibers. Analyze OTDR traces for the purpose of evaluating splice loss. Create splice diagrams, schedules, and fiber connectivity documents. Draft detailed packages of complete procedures for fiber cutovers, rollovers, and turn-ups. Performs augmentation to design tools. Performs site surveys, attending meetings. Assists installation team when necessary. Produces Engineering Design Packages (EDPs). Creates, updates, and reviews technical documentation. Able to travel by auto or airplane on short notice for surveys, meetings, and projects. What We Look For in a Candidate
Education and Experience: Position requires minimum two years of underground utility construction engineering layout and follow through experience. BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience (five years construction engineering or similar discipline). Security Requirements: US Citizenship required. Active TS/SCI with Poly. Must maintain eligibility requirements for access to classified information (applicants selected will be subject to a government security re-investigation). Other Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license have a clean driving record. Travel required. Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
