Factory Quality Engineer
Operations Quality has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with the factory teams supporting production, first article inspections, creating/maintaining work/inspection instructions, preparation for audits, and mentoring junior Quality Engineers. The position is based in Tucson, AZ and requires onsite presence. The quality engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following in the next section. Note - this role does not provide relocation assistance. What you will do: Train, coach, and mentor quality engineers Develop strong working relationships with the factory leadership, program leadership, and DCMA Lead continuous improvement activities to help reach departmental and enterprise-wide goals Support factory and program alignment meetings to ensure priorities are properly aligned Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies Regularly generate and publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics Facilitate and lead cross-functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB) Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management Development and maintenance of inspection instructions, ensuring inspection instructions meet the technical data package requirements and meet production needs Regularly interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Daily status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issue Conduct weekly meetings to help reduce cost of poor quality and facilitate timely red rack dispositions Qualifications You Must Have: Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or other related field of study Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in one of the following: Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline Experience in supporting design and/or manufacturing process Manufacturing process experience with one of the following: (assembly, inspection, test) Experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems The ability to obtain and maintain an US security clearance prior to the start date (U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance) The ability to obtain and maintain an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) clearance Qualifications We Value: Existing DoD Top Secret Clearance Strong interpersonal skills with experience in negotiating, having difficult conversations, and ability to work well with factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders Experience in PRISM, CABS, Business Warehouse, and RCAS Experience with the PCB process Experience with AS9142 First Article Inspection Requirements Knowledge of EAC (estimate at complete), MRP (material resource planning), and AOP (Annual Operating Plan) to understand what drives factory decisions Experience working in a dynamic environment that requires prioritization and flexibility to support competing requirements Experience in leading cross-functional teams in auditing process and product/process improvements in the factory or at suppliers Experience in Product/Process Failure Modes & Affects Analysis, Regression Analysis Experience with AS9145 - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Motivated and self-starting team player who achieves results and continuously strives for improvement Strong written and verbal communication and networking skills Six Sigma and/or ASQ Certification Level 5 Mission Assurance Certification (Internal Candidates) Data analysis; development and usage of actionable metrics Master's Degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or Business High computer proficiency, including skills working with Microsoft Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word Visio) What We Offer: Whether you're just starting out on your career journey or are an experienced professional, we offer a robust total rewards package with compensation; healthcare, wellness, retirement and work/life benefits; career development and recognition programs.
