Job Objective
Provide divisional leadership over select accounting operations, budgeting, and grant-funded program compliance for Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) and assigned units. Supervise accounting staff, ensure the accuracy of financial records and reporting, and safeguard compliance with all funding requirements and Salvation Army policies. Accounting & Financial Oversight
Maintain accurate ledgers, financial statements, and budgets for DHQ and assigned units Review monthly and year-end financial reports, bank reconciliations, and support-service adjustments; ensure timely closing of books Monitor cash needs and forecast requirements for assigned units; coordinate reserve transfers and allocations in the absence of the Accountants Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by the Controller Grant & Compliance Management
Track spending and compliance for Federal, State, and Local grants Prepare billing documents, drawdown requests, and periodic financial reports required by funding agencies Maintain complete grant documentation for review/audit and coordinate all financial reviews or site visits by funders Budgeting & Forecasting
Partner with officers/administrators/department heads to develop annual budgets and revisions; act as a resource on complex transactions and funding structures Calculate quarterly support-service adjustments and assist units with financial forecasting Leadership & Staff Development
Supervise Accounting Specialists, Staff Accountants, and Senior Staff Accountants Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to finance department staff; foster a culture of accuracy, compliance, and service excellence Policy, Records & Other Duties
Ensure all records are maintained in accordance with Salvation Army policies and generally accepted accounting principles; safeguard confidentiality Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred in Accounting, or related field; relevant experience as determined by The Salvation Army, may be considered in lieu of education requirement Experience: Minimum five (5) years progressive accounting experience; non-profit and supervisory experience strongly preferred Certifications/Licenses: None Skills/Abilities: Advanced proficiency with computer-based accounting systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and grant requirements Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter able to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities Effective communicator with demonstrated team-building and mentoring abilities Commitment to uphold and promote The Salvation Army's mission, vision, and values Supervisory Responsibility: Direct supervision of Accounting Managers, Accounting Specialists, Staff Accountants, and Senior Staff Accountants Physical Requirements: Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment.
