The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Senior at our Division 3 Headquarters in Appomattox, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Serving as a shift lead in the Division III Communications Center. Providing assistance to law enforcement and emergency personnel, the public, and the media within Division III. Providing support, guidance, and training to other dispatchers and call takers within the Communications Center to help them perform their duties effectively and proficiently. Operating within a specific geographic area by sending and receiving information and sending emergency assistance or service equipment to assist law enforcement personnel or the public. Operating a variety of equipment. Maintaining logs and records. Accessing information through various systems/databases including CAD, VCIN, NCIC, NLETS. We are firmly committed to our family-like culture and are seeking to expand our team. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge: Operations of a State Police communications center. Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) communications equipment. Multi-use system phone lines. Department policies and procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications equipment and operations. Skills: Operating computers and using Microsoft software applications. Operating a variety of communication equipment, including radio transmitters and receivers; computerized communication terminals; keyboards; and multi-line telephone equipment. Abilities: Monitor operations to ensure efficient and continuous operation in compliance with Department Policy. Monitor entries, inquiries, and retrievals in CAD, VCIN/NCIC and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) according to established procedures. Maintain records and logs. Lead and provide guidance, training and formal instruction to shift personnel. Effectively communicate with the public and Department employees, especially in stressful situations. Work in a high pressure, high stress, high volume environment, and exercise sound judgement under stress, prioritizing multiple responsibilities. Communicate effectively orally and in writing in English. Work effectively independently and as a member of a team. Work holidays, weekends and rotating shifts. Must be a CCT Trainer for new employees. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Prior experience as a police/emergency service dispatcher. Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
