The Medical Receptionist at Long Island Gastroenterology Specialists (LIGS) serves as the vital first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. This role is essential in managing patient flow efficiently by scheduling appointments, verifying patient information, and coordinating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The receptionist will handle administrative tasks such as managing patient records, processing insurance information, and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations. By providing exceptional customer service and accurate information, the Medical Receptionist 1 supports the smooth operation of the clinic and contributes to a positive patient experience. Ultimately, this position plays a key role in facilitating effective healthcare delivery through organized front desk management and clear communication. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical receptionist or front desk role within a healthcare setting. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer proficiency. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Medical Administrative Assistant or equivalent. Experience working in a gastroenterology or specialty medical practice. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing processes. Proficiency in scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community. Responsibilities
Greet patients and visitors promptly and courteously, providing assistance and directing them appropriately. Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems. Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and route calls to the appropriate medical staff or departments. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations in all communications and record handling. Assist with patient check-in and check-out processes, including processing payments and co-pays. Coordinate with medical staff to communicate patient needs and update appointment statuses.
