Staff comprises a manager, clinical coordinator or charge nurse, registered nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary. During the day shift, there are 4 registered nurses and 2-3 patient care technicians present. Patient ratios on the unit are 6:1. Standard nursing equipment is utilized, including BiPAP for stable patients, Mid/Flow, PD, Heparin gtts, and cardiac monitors. Electronic medical records are managed using Meditech 6.0. The unit primarily cares for cardio-pulmonary patients but can accommodate any general medical patients. The ability to monitor cardiac needs is crucial, as the unit typically does not treat arrhythmias. Stable patients with COVID-19 can also be received in this setting. A self-motivated and accountable attitude is preferred, along with a positive and cooperative approach to teamwork. Floating to similar levels of care such as medical-surgical or potentially stepdown assignments may be required. Attire consists of navy scrubs and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes. Weekend work is required every other weekend and major holidays, with no on-call duties. Visible leadership support from management and nursing supervisors provides excellent team dynamics. Collaboration among nurses, patient care technicians, and nurse externs fosters a strong working environment. The team includes experienced nurses, ranging from 20 years to newly graduated professionals. Strong relationships with physicians enhance patient care delivery.
