Bachelor's degree in a related field. Two years of relevant specialist experience or experience in a related field. Certifications may be required. Experience in Higher Education and specialized work is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the State & Educational Processes Team and the Office of the Registrar.
Primary Responsibilities
Performs intricate specialist tasks for the Registrar's Office, such as record maintenance, report compilation, and policy interpretation in compliance areas such as TSI (Texas Success Initiative), NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), CPOS (Course Program of Study), and NSC (National Student Clearinghouse). Provides departmental and/or university information to students, departments, and staff regarding compliance matters. Collaborates with multiple university offices to ensure adherence to federal, state, and university regulations, and implements best practices. Possesses an intermediate grasp of university policy, state and federal regulations, and catalog information and effectively communicates this information to campus staff and students. Ensures an understanding of Sam Houston State University's undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree plans, and approved certificate programs. Assists in preparing, reviewing, revising, and distributing documents including manuals, guides, and other correspondence. Offers compliance assistance to campus advisors, staff, faculty, and students. Maintains and updates student records to ensure compliance with TSI, NCAA, NCS reporting, and CPoS regulations and guidelines. Possesses understanding and thorough knowledge of the NSC and how it impacts the university and students. May be involved in submitting reports to the NSC. Participates in reviewing and assessing current procedures and reports to pinpoint potential risks or recurring issues, and effectively communicates findings to their supervisor. Assists in addressing federal/state audit findings by documenting processes, identifying potential issues, and devising optimal solutions. Conducts ongoing research to stay current on compliance knowledge and best practices adopted by peer institutions. Participates in testing of system upgrades and resolves associated processes. Ensures adherence to project timelines, identifies potential issues, and communicates them to their supervisor. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Works outside regular hours (e.g., events, weekends) as necessary to represent the Office of the Registrar and enhance student success. Prioritizes professional growth by actively engaging in state and regional meetings and conferences, ensuring ongoing development and enhancement of skills and knowledge. Willingness to take multiple inputs and develop new processes. Demonstrates an avid interest in continuously enhancing technical skills and learning new ones; applies advanced technical knowledge and innovation to enrollment service processes and complex functional problem-solving daily.
