Job Responsibilities:

The Payroll Manager will work closely with the Sr. Director of Human Relations and the Chief Financial Officer to facilitate and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as it relates to payroll accuracy and compliance. Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Communicates regularly with other payroll/accounting/HR staff regarding payroll matters.
  • Manage multi-state payroll tax matters.
  • Processes payroll on a bi-weekly/weekly basis for multiple pay groups across multiple states.
  • Manage communications with employees on timesheet approvals and expense reports.
  • Manage all payroll changes to confirm employee's payroll records are accurate and up to date with regard to pay, tax withholdings, deductions, child support and garnishments.
  • Deliver instruction/training to employees regarding the use of payroll-related systems including entry of timesheets, online access of pay statements, expense reports, etc.
  • Complete certified payroll reports for multiple projects weekly.
  • Complete union benefits and dues reporting monthly.
  • Assist with monthly close processes including preparation of monthly journal entries and analyses for state tax filings and compliance.
  • Filing monthly state sales/use tax returns and maintain business licenses.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies by checking source materials, reconstructing probable actions, and recognizing the effect on other accounts; prepare corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and payroll tax computations.
  • Posting monthly payroll journal entries.
  • Reconciliation of payroll withholdings and monthly benefits invoices.
  • Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced finance department while adhering to established standards.
  • Prepare and interpret payroll summaries and provide reports to managers on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and analyze data.
