The New York City Fire Pension Fund seeks a full-time Accountant Level I/Staff Accountant in the Accounting Unit, reporting to the Deputy Chief Accountant. The role requires confidence, initiative, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and financial reporting skills. The Accounting Unit manages daily general accounting, banking, and annual financial statement preparation.

Under supervision, responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing and reconciling monthly and annual financial reports.
  2. Posting accounts payable journal entries.
  3. Analyzing bank accounts and investment data.
  4. Performing bank reconciliations.
  5. Entering journal entries into the accounting system.
  6. Reconciling trial balances with source documents.
  7. Assisting with year-end closing, benefit payment reconciliation, investment report reconciliation, and interacting with other units.
  8. Participating in ad hoc projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting (including advanced accounting and auditing), or
  2. Valid New York State CPA license.

To qualify for Level II, candidates need at least one year of experience as an Accountant Level I or two years of professional accounting or auditing experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
  • Strong analytical, detail-oriented skills with high accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
