Payroll Tax Specialist Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Tax Specialist to join our team in Decatur, Alabama. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate withholding of payroll taxes from employee wages in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage employer contributions to payroll taxes, including Social Security and Medicare payments.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns, such as Form 941 and state/local tax filings, using the current payroll provider.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance with all payroll tax requirements.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of payroll tax payments and filings.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or issues related to payroll taxes, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Provide support during payroll tax audits by furnishing documentation and addressing auditor questions.
  • Oversee payroll systems and software to ensure accurate calculation and reporting of payroll taxes.
  • Complete year-end processes, including W-2 preparation, through the payroll provider.
  • Manage wage attachment processes, including vendor follow-up and communication with employees.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll tax compliance or a similar role.
    • Solid knowledge of payroll tax laws and multi-state payroll experience is highly desirable.
    • Proficiency in payroll software systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Experience with UKG Pro or similar systems is a plus.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.
