Mother-Baby/Couplet Care Registered Nurse (Postpartum RN)
Facility: University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center
Location: 901 Harry S Truman Dr N, Largo, MD 20774
Unit: Mother-Baby Unit (27-bed couplet care)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: 08/25/2025 (or ASAP)
Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:30–08:00)
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend
  Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Postpartum RN to provide comprehensive couplet care for mothers and newborns in a Baby-Friendly designated unit. The ideal candidate will have strong postpartum assessment skills and newborn care experience.
Requirements & Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
* Active MD RN or Compact License (required at submission)
* BLS & NRP (AHA/AAP only)
* Preferred: CPI certification (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
Experience
* Minimum 2 years Mother-Baby/Postpartum experience
* Required Skills:
* Postpartum assessments (fundus, lochia, perineal care)
* Newborn care: circumcision care, car seat safety, breastfeeding support
* Management of postpartum complications (hemorrhage, PIH, c-section recovery)
* Travel experience preferred
Unit Details
* Patient Ratio: Couplet care (mother + newborn)
* Common Cases:
* Vaginal & c-section recoveries
* PIH, gestational diabetes, multiples
* Newborn transition care
* Baby-Friendly Protocols: Breastfeeding support, rooming-in
Schedule & Policies
* Holidays: Worked as scheduled
* Floating: Potential to antepartum or Level 1 nursery if needed
