Are you a mechanically skilled individual focused on delivering solutions? The Indianapolis Zoo is looking for an

HVAC/General Maintenance Technician

who will go above and beyond for all our Indianapolis Zoo members and guests. Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. As part of the Facilities team, this role will focus on technical excellence, preventive care, and delivering solutions in a consultative manner. On-call duties are shared evenly among four HVAC technicians. This position requires a professional attitude and demeanor and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.

What You'll Do

Maintain and optimize various HVAC systems, air handling units, chillers, refrigeration systems, furnaces, boilers, industrial vent fans, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and building controls across the Zoo. Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and replacements per manufacturer specs. Support electrical, plumbing, and general mechanical work as needed. Serve as a trusted technical resource for other departments-offering options, explaining repairs, and ensuring solutions fit the need. Participate in seasonal event support (ZooBoo & Christmas at the Zoo) with adjusted schedules from approximately October 1-January 5. Work in a variety of environments-from climate-controlled mechanical rooms to outdoor animal habitats-adapting your skills to unique challenges.

What We're Looking For

Minimum five (5) years of HVAC experience in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. General maintenance skills in plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to lift 100 lbs occasionally/50 lbs frequently; work at heights with fall protection. Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, NodaFi, Honeywell EBI). Valid Indiana driver's license (or able to obtain in 30 days), insurable by Zoo policy.
