The Principal Process Engineer for Lummus' FCC technology must have a thorough understanding of FCC process fundamentals, scale-up, commercial unit operation, and catalyst selection effects on performance. The specialist must have highly defined engineering skills and be able to apply them through the diverse range of technologies used in Lummus' FCC process to both improve existing technology and drive technology innovation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead proposal and Basic Design & Engineering efforts with minimum guidance. This includes predicting yield estimates for proposals and projects and providing input for process guarantees.
  • Continuous improvement of FCC database for performance predictions. This includes collection of commercial data and directing FCC pilot plant programs to expand Lummus' capabilities.
  • Developing, improving, and utilizing design and engineering tools to streamline work processes and improve proposal/Basic Design and Engineering Package (BDEP) quality.
  • Benchmarking of Lummus' FCC technology against other licensors' offerings.
  • Designing and directing internal R&D programs with focus on conventional and unconventional feedstocks to improve Lummus' competitive position in the FCC marketplace.
  • Filing invention disclosures to advance Lummus' position in licensing, proprietary equipment, and design for conventional and advanced FCC processes.
  • Presenting Lummus' FCC technology in customer meetings, conferences, and industry trade groups.
  • Support sales projects with in-depth technical assistance to both internal and external customers.
  • Travel on domestic and international business trips for proposal clarifications, PFD/ P&ID reviews meetings, and assist in pre-commissioning and/or commissioning activities of FCC units.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Minimum B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in process engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in the FCC technology licensing business.
  • Understanding and working knowledge base for the fundamentals of FCC technology, such as fluidization, heat transfer, reaction kinetics, and hardware.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with MS Office software.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate with cross-functional disciplines.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites (both domestic and international), approximately four times per year, usually for periods of one week each.
