Survey Technician – 7-month contract

Overview:
The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading field survey operations across a variety of utility and infrastructure projects, including electric distribution, gas, transmission, and substations. This role serves as the key liaison between office-based engineering and design teams and field survey crews, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient execution of survey tasks.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Perform and oversee field survey activities including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, plan and profile surveys, and construction staking.
- Respond to survey requests from internal departments and ensure timely and accurate data collection.
- Operate survey equipment such as GPS units, laser scanners, and Trimble devices to gather data on property lines, land contours, and existing infrastructure.
- Record survey data using electronic data collectors and transfer data to office systems for analysis and documentation.
- Research land records and resolve field discrepancies efficiently.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and survey teams to ensure alignment between field data and project requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of final survey documents and drawings.
- Communicate with external stakeholders including private survey firms, engineering consultants, government agencies, and the public.
- Stay current with survey technologies, instrumentation, and best practices.
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
- 4–10 years of experience in land surveying, with preference for candidates with utility or infrastructure project experience.
- Proficiency with survey equipment including GPS, laser scanners, and Trimble systems.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with data collectors and survey software.
- Ability to work independently in the field and travel to various project sites.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Two-year degree in surveying technology or civil engineering technology is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
