Position Overview The Director of Labor & Employee Relations (Dir of LER) is a strategic leader responsible for developing, executing, and managing the BRC's employee and labor relations strategies. This role ensures alignment with agency goals while fostering positive relationships between management, union leadership, and employees. Responsibilities include dispute resolution, policy development, legal compliance, managing employee relations, mitigating risks, and addressing issues proactively to maintain a harmonious environment. The Dir of LER collaborates with senior leadership, HR teams, and Program Directors to promote a supportive work environment. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement employee relations strategies supporting organizational goals, enhancing satisfaction and retention, and ensuring legal compliance. Policy Development & Compliance:
Create and update HR policies to comply with laws such as EEO, FMLA, ADA, and internal standards. Conflict Resolution & Investigations:
Oversee investigations and resolution of grievances and conflicts, leading or advising on complex cases. Coaching & Advisory:
Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on labor and employee relations, providing coaching and guidance. Legal & Risk Management:
Work with legal counsel to mitigate risks, handle legal cases, and represent management in grievance processes. Labor Relations (CBA):
Manage collective bargaining agreements, support negotiations, and develop bargaining strategies. Training & Development:
Conduct labor relations training for employees and leaders. Employee Engagement:
Foster a culture of trust and respect, promote open communication, and enhance engagement initiatives. Data-Driven Insights:
Monitor KPIs related to employee relations and use data analytics for continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (JD, MA, MS preferred). 10+ years of labor/employee relations experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership. Deep knowledge of employment laws (EEO, FMLA, ADA, Title VII) and best practices. Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly. Experience with the National Labor Relations Act, state laws, and collective bargaining. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Skills Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations. Proficiency in HR software and data analytics tools. Reporting Structure:
Reports to the CHRO and collaborates with HR Business Partners, Legal Counsel, and senior leadership.
