The high level
The Managing Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (MDFP&A) is an essential member of the Finance and Accounting team, leads the FP&A function, and reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO). The Managing Director will provide business and financial advice to the CFOO and various budget leaders within a national, distributed organization. The position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports and analyses for various national departments and regional Executive Directors and serves as a liaison between national and regional teams. The position provides regular support to other Finance-related functions, such as the month-end close process.
They will manage a team of two to maximize student outcomes over the long term through the efficient, effective, and sustainable allocation of financial resources. They will manage a Senior Revenue Manager and a Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis.

This position is remote but requires candidates to reside within one of the following Reading Partners’ operating locations: Baltimore, MD, Charleston, SC, New York City, NY, and Washington, D.C. What you’ll do Financial Planning & Analysis Strategic Planning Provide key support to the CFOO with the annual strategic planning process. Build financial models and forecasting tools that allow for long-term scenario planning in support of the strategic planning process. Budgeting / Forecasting Lead the annual budget creation process; support the development of a sustainable $33 million budget for the fiscal year and beyond by developing prudent and realistic forecasts. Lead the monthly forecasting process. Prepare and analyze monthly financial performance reports and variances by region/function. Support the executive leadership team in managing key financial metrics. Collaborate with budget owners, development, and regional teams on cash flow forecasts. Partner with national and regional leaders to provide financial support and guidance. Advise budget leaders on fiscal decisions and collaborate to achieve financial sustainability goals. Analyze spending trends to optimize resource allocation and outcomes. Prepare financial reports for quarterly Board meetings. Financial Operations and Systems Evaluate, refine, and support systems and processes to ensure operational excellence as the organization grows. Enhance the use of Adaptive Insights, including integrating with third-party software, developing reports, and creating dashboards. Ensure Compliance Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for funders/donors. Manage financial documentation for grants and proposals. Monitor compliance with line of credit covenants. Other duties as needed. How you’ll do it Relationship Development & Communication : Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including staff, community members, and board members. Use data to tell compelling stories and ensure financial sustainability. We do not negotiate salaries but aim to offer the best possible package. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with a pay range of $135,703 - $151,668 annually, depending on location. Hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. Have intermediate Excel skills; familiarity with financial software like Adaptive Insights, Hyperion, Cognos, and Salesforce is preferred. Bonus points if : You have an MBA or advanced degree. You are a national service alum (e.g., AmeriCorps, Peace Corps). You have experience in organizational launch or growth phases.
