The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Nephrology at Stanford University is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Academic Program Professional 2 to lead and manage the newly established Kidney Health Innovation Research Program, a donor-funded initiative administered in partnership with the Stanford Maternal & Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI).
This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a high-impact academic program from its inception. Under the direction of the Program Faculty Director and in close collaboration with MCHRI and the program’s Scientific Advisory Board, the Program Manager will be responsible for advancing the vision, strategy, and long-term goals of the initiative. The role involves managing the full lifecycle of the Kidney Health Innovation Research Awards program, including the development of funding opportunities, oversight of application and review processes, and coordination of progress reporting. In this role, the Program Manager will also lead faculty engagement and outreach efforts, identifying and cultivating relationships with physician-scientists whose work spans immunology, nephrology, clinical research, data science, and advanced molecular/genomic technologies. These efforts are central to recruiting a collaborative research community dedicated to improving care and outcomes for individuals affected by glomerular disease and other kidney conditions.The Program Manager will oversee the planning and execution of key scientific and educational events, including symposia, seminar series, and community-facing programming. They will serve as a primary liaison to stakeholders across Stanford and beyond—including academic collaborators, patient advocacy organizations, industry partners, and research consortia—and will play a critical role in shaping the program’s communications and external partnerships. As the program evolves, the Program Manager will also contribute to philanthropic stewardship and sustainability efforts, working closely with institutional partners to prepare grant proposals, track deliverables, and support donor engagement through strategic reporting and impact documentation.The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in academic program development, research administration, and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. Duties include:
●Facilitating the scientific discourse and collaborative effort between all members of the program, at Stanford University and beyond.
●Keep up on latest developments in the glomerulonephritis field and other kidney conditions, e.g. availability of large data in shared databases.
●Source, collect and analyze data, e.g. about new and ongoing clinical trials, create reports, review and explain trends; keep members of the Kidney Health Innovation Research Program informed about important new developments in the field. Formulate recommendations to achieve the goals of the program and identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
●Plan and organize regularly scheduled glomerulonephritis symposia.
●Function as the liaison between the Stanford Kidney Health Innovation Research Program and other glomerular disease and other kidney conditions public entities, e.g. NEPTUNE and CureGN.
●Function as the liaison between the Stanford Kidney Health Innovation Research Program and the private sector (biotech/pharma).
●Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
●Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $120,000 - $150,000.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ●Advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MS, PhD, or equivalent) in a scientific, health, or policy-related field strongly preferred. Background in biomedical sciences, translational research, or health systems is highly desirable. ●Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic program or research administration within a university, healthcare, or nonprofit research setting. Experience working in a medical school or clinical research environment is a plus. ●Demonstrated success in developing and managing complex, multi-stakeholder research or training initiatives from concept to execution. Adept at building relationships across disciplines and sectors, including experience liaising with faculty, donors, industry partners, advocacy organizations, and external research consortia. ●Strong knowledge of academic funding mechanisms and internal/external grant administration, including NIH, foundation, and philanthropic grants, grant administration, IRB, and financial forecasting. Proven experience supporting the development and submission of successful research proposals, including familiarity with sponsor guidelines, compliance processes, and institutional routing. ●Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing scientific reports, donor briefings, and educational materials for diverse audiences including faculty, funders, and the public. ●Proven ability to lead scientific meetings, symposia, and educational events, including agenda design, speaker coordination, and impact assessment. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): ·Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources. ·Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization. ·Ability to oversee and direct staff. ·Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans. CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: ·For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.
