Executive Director of Research & Development – Pharmaceutical Products
Location :
Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN Position Overview We are seeking a proven R&D leader to head a high-performing team of approximately 10 scientists and product development professionals. This group specializes in innovative pharmaceutical products and delivery systems, with expertise across multiple dosage forms. We need a hands-on leader who can provide strategic direction and elevate capabilities in oral solid dosage forms —particularly in complex formulations such as modified-release tablets and capsules. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor an R&D team, fostering innovation and technical excellence in both new product development and novel delivery systems. Drive projects from concept through commercialization, with a focus on oral solids formulation and process development. Guide strategic initiatives including portfolio selection, due diligence, and business planning. Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams to align R&D priorities with business objectives. Qualifications Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences / Life Sciences with 10+ years of post-academic industry experience, OR Master’s degree with 15+ years . Demonstrated expertise in oral solid dosage development, especially complex products (e.g., modified release). Proven track record in formulation development is highly desirable. Experience leading small to mid-sized technical teams (3–10 people). Strategic business experience in portfolio planning and due diligence preferred. Why Minneapolis–St. Paul?
