Chair, Department of Orthopaedics. This is an exceptional opportunity to inspire, develop, and lead an accomplished team of faculty, staff, and trainees in a department with a longstanding reputation for excellence at one of the most respected medical schools in the U.S. The next chair will have the experience required to serve as a transformative and visionary leader of best-in-class clinicians, researchers and educators and will effectively collaborate with local leadership at all the affiliates. The Chair will provide leadership for 63 faculty across 10 divisions, more than 14 practice locations, and 11 hospitals in 7 health systems. The Chair will collaborate with medical school and health system leadership to create a clear vision for the department – one that addresses the rapidly changing field of orthopaedic surgery. This individual will work in partnership with stakeholders to balance the varying priorities while also fostering a climate that values faculty engagement, financial and operational strength, growth, innovation and further elevates the stature of the department both regionally and nationally. The Chair will serve as the “chief executive” of a complex, physician-owned musculoskeletal practice as well as the academic leader responsible for education and research excellence. The ideal candidate must have a passion for furthering the clinical, education and research missions – as well as the business acumen and cultural sensitivity to lead in a complex matrixed organization. The new chair must be a natural collaborator, building strong internal and external relationships and have deep experience leading innovation and organizational change to drive results in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. The Warren Alpert Medical School is a national leader in medical education and biomedical research. Brown University Health is comprised of three teaching hospitals (Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and Bradley Hospital), as well as three community hospitals and Brown Health Medical Group, the largest multi-specialty practice in Rhode Island. In June 2024, Lifespan and Brown University announced a new affiliation agreement to further unite the two organizations around their goals for academic medicine and research. The candidate must possess a medical degree, be board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, and have academic credentials suitable for appointment to the rank of full professor. Additionally, a distinguished record and accomplishment in scholarship, teaching, research, and clinical service is highly desirable.
