The Role: The Heavy Highway Estimator will be an integral member of the
Preconstruction/Estimating group with the goal of bidding unit price heavy highway projects. The Heavy Highway Estimator will report to the Director of Estimating and perform tasks such as evaluation of projects, detailed takeoff of quantities, data input and bid pricing, completion of bid documents and submission bids to the State, local municipalities, and others for road, bridge, and/or utility projects. Key Responsibilities: - Review and understand all bid documents to determine scope of work and required content of estimate. - Accurate estimating of projects assigned, completed on time, in a professional and competitive manner, while considering risk factors and construction methods. - Determine labor, material, and equipment costs. - Perform detailed quantity take-off and pricing of projects as assigned. - Solicit subcontractors and suppliers, review scopes and pricing. - Develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors and owners, maintaining ethical standards. - Investigate conditions at the project site prior to bid to understand and evaluate site accessibility, surface and underground conditions and any condition that would affect construction means/methods and costs. - Attend pre-bid meetings. - Handle the buy-out process once projects are awarded. - Ensure estimating practices are adhering to good faith efforts for MBE/WBE/DBE participation. - Keep current with the latest estimating technology and techniques. - Attend certain industry events representing KCI in a professional manner. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience: Aligned with GRIT values. Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred. 5+ years of experience in an estimating role. Previous experience in bidding projects of up to $20M is preferred, but not required. Familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid or other estimating software is preferred, but not required Background with MoDOT or other DOT / Municipal owners, specifications and standards is a requirement. Experience with estimating unit price work; scopes include concrete paving/flatwork, earthwork, utilities, drainage, and bridges. A high degree of integrity. Effective interpersonal skills. Organized, ability to set and meet deadlines, exhibit attention to detail. Must be a self-starter and team player. Knowledgeable of construction costs and engineering principles. Ability to read and interpret drawings. Proficient with Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, and other software for administrative duties. Knowledge of Oracle P-6, AGTEK and other construction software a plus. Background in alternative procurement a plus.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Limited exposure to physical risk.
Noise level in the office environment is usually quiet.
While performing the duties of this role, employee will be required to sit, talk, and hear.
Employee is occasionally required stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel.
