PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Fixed wing pilot in high-performance, jet aircraft (e.g., T-38, WB-57).

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain the highest level of skill, proficiency, and knowledge to support NASA aviation requirements.
  2. Maintain all required currencies in each assigned aircraft.
  3. Ensure each flight is completed efficiently, safely, and productively.
  4. Comply with all NASA and AOD aircraft procedural requirements.
  5. Utilize Crew Resource Management procedures effectively in multi-crew aircraft operations.
  6. Perform instructor duties as assigned, ensuring information is accurate and effectively presented.
  7. Follow safety and occupational health standards, rules, regulations, and policies.
  8. Identify hazards & report unsafe acts and procedures.
  9. Support investigation and resolution of anomalies and mishaps as assigned.
  10. Participate in safety inspections and training.
  11. The Pilot may be required to perform other related duties to meet organizational needs.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Beginner to intermediate computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional software.
  • Accurate data entry into databases.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to use general office equipment.
  • Follow processes and procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills, active listening, prompt service, follow-up.
  • Decision analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to justify decisions and communicate issues to management.
  • Ability to understand corporate policies and relate them to organizational goals.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, physical science, life science, or mathematics.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours pilot-in-command or first pilot flight time in high-performance jet aircraft, including at least 500 hours of jet aircraft with ≥3,000 pounds thrust per engine, aerobatic, capable of at least 6 G’s.
  • Formation flying experience.
  • Experience as a flight instructor in high-performance jet aircraft.
  • Flight test experience (desired).
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating (required); Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (desired).
  • Qualifications in multiple aircraft (desired).
  • Ability to deploy domestically and internationally for up to 45 days.
  • Experience supporting NASA/DoD contracts.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  • FAA First Class Medical or military equivalent.
