We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business Development Director to expand our presence in the power market. This role involves building trust-based relationships with electric utilities, independent power producers, and grid operators to drive growth across strategy, transformation, planning, digital, and security services. The ideal candidate will possess deep industry knowledge, a strong professional network, and a proven track record in developing and executing account growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Growth & Strategy
- Develop and implement targeted account growth strategies focused on power industry clients in specific geographic regions.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with existing and potential clients.
- Drive pipeline development and revenue growth by aligning 1898 & Co.'s offerings with client needs.
- Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with decision-makers across utilities, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations.
- Lead high-impact client meetings, industry presentations, and strategic engagements.
- Represent 1898 & Co. at conferences, trade shows, and industry events to enhance brand visibility.
- Partner with consulting, engineering, and other delivery teams to meet client needs with high-quality solutions.
- Collaborate closely with delivery, marketing, and senior leadership teams throughout the sales process.
- Align business development initiatives with Burns & McDonnell’s global practices to optimize opportunities.
- Manage the entire sales cycle from lead generation to contract signing.
- Utilize CRM systems to track opportunities, client interactions, and contacts.
- Provide market insights to inform service development and strategic planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 13 years' experience in consulting, owner/operator roles, business development, or sales within the power sector.
- Proactive, organized, and strategic thinker.
- Proven success in developing and executing sales strategies that exceed targets.
- Deep understanding of electric and gas utility operations, including transmission, distribution, and power generation (preferred).
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills at the executive level.
- Experience with regulatory frameworks, energy policies, and market trends (preferred).
- Willingness to travel up to 75% for client engagement and industry events.
