Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
To ensure prompt and efficient delivery/service of university mail
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Pick up mail and parcels from the post office every morning.
  • Receive daily deliveries of parcels from United Parcel Service, Federal Express, Amazon, DHL, LS, Federal Express Ground, couriers and other deliveries including large items such as furniture and machinery.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all external delivery personnel and internal recipients.
  • Maintain confidentiality with students, faculty and staff.
  • Receive and deliver hazardous chemicals, photo chemicals, biological supplies and live specimens to secured storage areas.
  • Sort and package incoming mail and parcels as well as interoffice mail for distribution along two daily established delivery routes.
  • Assist in receiving, sorting and distributing student packages.
  • Meter daily outgoing mail using a Pitney Bowes mailing system and entering appropriate departmental charges into the accounting system
  • Prepare USPS, Fed Ex and international deliveries online
  • Provide the University community with a wide range of mailing options and current postal information
  • Collect stamped mail from on campus mailboxes
  • Deliver all metered and stamped mail, parcels and express mail to post office and drop boxes
  • Schedule and drop off bulk mailings during designated acceptance hours
  • Attend service window assisting with packaging, postage and stamp sales.
  • Report any issues with delivery vehicle to supervisor
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Scan mail and parcels for abnormal appearance or odor and handle according to the University emergency procedures
  • Program and operate folding and inserting machine to prepare bills, correspondence and mass mailings
  • Pick up monthly postal supply order
  • Inventory, order and pick up postal supplies
  • May be required to work during certain campus closings (inclement weather and holiday breaks)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Mail Services Supervisor
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must attend suspicious and hazardous mail training
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is subject to outside work where extreme cold and hot temperatures may be encountered
Requirements:
Required :
A high school diploma or GED is required. Must be computer literate. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a traditional college-aged student population as well as staff and faculty members. Daily lifting of up to 75 lbs. is required
Preferred :
Previous experience in a mailroom/post office is preferred.
