Welder Job Post
The Welders are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.
Position demands include:
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience, with at least two years being NAVSEA-related experience.
- Possesses standard tools for a welder.
- Able to work different shifts.
- Must have good knowledge of ship board spaces.
- Must have knowledge of weld symbols and general DWGs.
- Must pass FCAW, 2G, 3G & 4G 71T1 .045 wire.
- Must pass SMAW, 6G Pipe, 11018 "stick".
- Must pass SMAW, 6G Pipe, 309 "stick".
- Must pass GMAW, 2G, 3G & 4G aluminum 5000 & 6000 series.
- Must pass GTAW, 2G, 3G & 4G aluminum 5000 & 6000 series.
- Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F RN67(CUNI).
- Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F 316 (Stainless Steel).
- Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F 70S2 (Carbon Steel).
- Must pass GTAW, 6G RN625 on Carbon Steel pipe (open root).
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to safely hook up and operate a torch.
- Must have knowledge of WAFs.
- Must be able to follow instructions and work well with others.
- Ability to gain access to local bases.

Visual requirements include:
- Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger's Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids.
- Must pass a color vision test using Ishihara's Tests for Color Deficiency.
Working relationships:
This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other Welders and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals.
Principal responsibilities include:
- Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and the requirements of the ticket have been met.
- Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written.
- Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished.
- Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished.
- Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do.
- Assures that General Dynamics-NASSCO's Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
- Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
- Assures that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
- Assures that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position.
- Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
