Job Opportunity at Alaska Pioneer Homes

The Anchorage Pioneer Home is recruiting for a multi-class Licensed Practical Nurse/Nurse 1/Nurse 2. These positions are in the General Government Unit (GGU) at range 17 (LPN), range 21 (N1), and range 22 (N2). The mission of the Division of the Alaska Pioneer Homes is: "Providing elder Alaskans a home and community, celebrating life through its final breath."

This position is a member of an outstanding nursing and direct care staff and plays a vital role in providing person-centered care and support in a safe environment for up to one hundred seventy-seven (177) elder residents. Our division values are:

What you will be doing: Provide high quality care to assisted living home residents in a warm, supportive, and caring manner. This position provides clinical and medication administration to residents and clinical support to the care teams. Focus will be on quality resident care, the growth, development, and empowerment of health care teams, and the promotion of assisted living philosophy and statutes.

The working environment you can expect: This job is in the Anchorage Pioneer Home, an assisted living home at 923 W. 11th Ave in Anchorage, Alaska. It overlooks an area known as the Park Strip with views of the Chugach Mountains easily visible from most floors of the home.

Who we are looking for: Position-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that are desired or contribute to the success in this position:

  1. Considerable knowledge and skill of the principles and practices of nursing, behavior, and needs of patients.
  2. Ability to observe and evaluate reactions and changes in the physical behavioral and mental condition of patients and to think and act quickly in emergencies.
  3. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients.
  4. Ability to administer treatments and medications and observe for and report adverse reactions.
  5. Ability to maintain records and to prepare clear, concise reports.

  • This position is in support of the Pioneer Home, which is a 24-hour facility.
  • This Pioneer Home is an Eden Alternative facility, where the environment includes contact with plants, flowers, and pets including cats, dogs, fish, and birds.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Practical Nurse: A diploma or certificate from an accredited school in practical nursing and eligibility for licensure as a practical nurse with the State of Alaska. Special requirements: Physical strength to lift, assist, and transfer patients. Special note: Applicants who have or obtain a temporary permit issued under 12 AAC 44.320 may report for duty; however, the job offer will remain conditional, for a timeframe not to exceed six months, pending the applicant showing proof of licensure during their initial probationary period. Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment. Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually.

Nurse 1: Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska. Special note: Applicants who have or obtain a temporary permit issued under 12 AAC 44.320 may report for duty; however, the job offer will remain conditional, for a timeframe not to exceed six months, pending the applicant showing proof of licensure during their initial probationary period. Nurse 2: Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska; AND EITHER successful completion of a formal training plan as a Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska; OR one year of entry-level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer. Substitution: Combinations of prior training and experience as a Registered Nurse in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Psychiatric, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care, Surgical) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis. Special note: Applicants who have or obtain a temporary permit issued under 12 AAC 44.320 may report for duty; however, the job offer will remain conditional, for a timeframe not to exceed six months, pending the applicant showing proof of licensure during their initial probationary period. Additional Required Information

At the time of interview, the applicant must provide: Two (2) professional references (including work/supervisor-related) and three (3) character references (personal) with current contact information.

Provide current evidence to be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with test results dated within the last 12 months prior to start date.
