This role will promote trust and increase efficiency around the insurance product filing process, while providing independent value-added regulatory insights to the business.
The role is accountable for the following:
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, inclusive of building and maintaining relationships with key Department of Insurance (DOI) contacts and industry advocacy leaders and effectively communicating HSBs position on various policy matters. To that end, this position will develop strategies and implement steps to ensure compliance with regulations across all of our insurance products (direct and assumed).
- Oversees the successful execution of the full filing lifecycle for our insurance products, from development of proactive filing strategies for all our insurance products (new or enhanced) to development of filing materials that will result in ultimate DOI approvals, through identification of state filing requirements and actual filing submissions, through to resolution of any form, rate or rule objections for those products.
- Leads the development and maintenance of form, rate and rule materials for HSBs direct insurance products that incorporate recent changes in the regulatory landscape. It is critical for this role to effectively navigate complex regulatory challenges, develop effective compliance solutions while maintaining a pragmatic approach for business enablement. In addition, they will work closely with AVP Client Delivery to ensure our reinsured product filing support leverages learnings from our direct experience in order to be as optimal as possible.
- Lead development of adequate RATE filing support for all products, while working closely in tandem with AVP Client Delivery who is accountable for the efficacy of the form filing materials.
- Leads a team of professional direct reports. Coaches and mentors with a focus on development and succession plans. Determines performance evaluations and strategic hiring needs for the team.
Education And Experience
- Bachelors degree
- 10+ years experience in state regulatory form, rate and rule filings and compliance
- Commercial and Personal lines insurance experience
- Experience in Actuarial Science or working closely with Actuaries in terms of rate filing support.
- Leadership and supervisory experience
- Experienced in resolving complex problems with limited information, leveraging intuition and analytical skills
- Expertise in the regulatory landscape (Departments of Insurance and industry bureaus)
- Critical, strategic and analytical thinking
- Manages complexity and ambiguity
- Mathematical skills; non-credential actuarial science a plus
- Operational mindset to implement pragmatic solutions
- Leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Organizational skills, including juggling of multiple priorities
- Impact analysis
- Problem solving mindset
- Relationship management with both internal and external stakeholders
- Competent understanding of actuarial support and underwriting
- Experience with Departments of Insurance, SERFF, ISO, APCIA, NAIC, etc.
