Position Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies. They will support the financial reporting process, including preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports. The Senior Accountant will work closely with management, auditors, and other departments to ensure accurate financial records and smooth accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to senior management regarding budget variances, trends, and forecasts.
- General Ledger Management:
- Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and timely.
- Perform regular reconciliations of all general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations.
- Ensure that monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes are completed on time.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payment of invoices and collection of outstanding amounts.
- Review and approve payments and expense reports.
- Audit & Compliance:
- Coordinate with external auditors to support audits and ensure that financial records are compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure adherence to tax laws.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgeted numbers and report variances.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and recommend solutions to reduce risks and improve efficiency.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Ensure team members are properly trained in accounting procedures, software, and best practices.
- Review and approve the work of junior accountants and staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Masters degree or CPA is a plus).
- Experience: Typically 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in a senior role.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, typically working in an office environment.
- Occasional overtime may be required during month-end and year-end closing periods.
