Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an interim Accounting Manager who wiill be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accurate accounting records, compliance with nonprofit regulations, and the preparation of financial statements. This position will support the finance team, collaborate with other departments, and contribute to the effective management of financial resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Ensure that all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

General Accounting:
- Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
- Ensure proper accounting of restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with donor restrictions.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Prepare financial forecasts and variance analysis to support decision-making.
- Assist departments with budget planning and monitoring.

Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the organization's policies and procedures.
- Assist with annual audits, including preparation of workpapers and responding to auditor inquiries.

Grant & Donor Fund Management:
- Manage tracking and reporting of grant expenditures and ensure proper allocation of funds.
- Work closely with the development team to ensure financial compliance with donor restrictions and grant reporting requirements.
- Prepare and file financial reports for government and private foundation grants.

Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing training and support.
- Assist with hiring and performance evaluations of accounting team members.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Systems & Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency.
- Manage the integration of accounting software and tools as needed to streamline operations.

Other Duties as Assigned:
- Provide support for special projects and other duties as requested by the Director of Finance or CFO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting and donor restrictions.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment.
