Title / Position: Senior Accountant
Summary:
The Macomb Group, Inc., a recognized leading distributor in the Midwest for pipe, valves and fittings, is looking for a Senior Accountant to join the accounting and finance team at the corporate headquarters in Sterling Heights, MI.
Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with completion and oversight of daily accounting activities including ledger maintenance, preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and other month-end close processes.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant regulations.
  • Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, as well as variance analysis and cost optimization analyses as needed.
  • Help prepare for and assist the controller in managing external audits, including the yearend financial statement audit and state sales and use tax audits.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles and other relevant regulations.
  • Liaise with accounting managers and the controller to improve financial procedures.
Qualifications and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role, with increasing responsibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software packages (Epicor Prophet 21 preferred, but not mandatory).
  • Intermediate to advanced excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain financial information.
