Senior Corporate Accountant

The Senior Accountant plays a key leadership role within the Finance Department, overseeing accounting operations, cash management, and financial reporting for a mission-driven healthcare governmental entity. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial data, optimizing cash flow, and maintaining compliance with GAAP, GASB, and all applicable regulatory requirements. Serving as both a strategic partner and hands-on cross training, the Senior Accountant collaborates inter-departmentally in month-end and fiscal year-end close activities, fund accounting and grant compliance, and provides financial analysis to aid in organizational decision-making. The role will also be involved in process improvements and accounting system optimization within the Workday ERP environment to enhance accuracy, efficiency, completeness, and transparency across financial functions. Key Responsibilities: Lead and execute accounting operations including daily cash management, accurate application of receipts, reconciliation of payments and monitoring of aged accounts receivable to reduce outstanding balances. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and forecasts, ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulatory requirements. Monitor compliance with Uniform Guidance, TxGMS, grant requirements, and internal control policies. Collaborate cross-functionally with grant management, billing, budgeting, and corporate accounting teams to ensure process alignment, data integrity, and clear visibility into financial performance. Support financial planning and analysis by identifying trends, preparing variance analyses, and providing actionable insights for strategic decision-making. Drive process improvement initiatives in financial reporting, accounts receivable and cash management functions, including Workday ERP automation projects. Support and follow up on external audits--including fiscal year-end, grant, and compliance reviews by preparing required documentation and serving as a point of contact for stakeholders. Document and maintain accounting standards and procedures while fostering adherence to internal controls and best practices. Mentor junior accounting staff by providing training, guidance and performance feedback. Regular, predictable attendance is considered to be an essential requirement for this position. Other duties may be assigned. May require a flexible work schedule. Education: Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major specialization in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. License: Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Workday certification preferred. Experience: Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP). Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite. Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Internship or work experience in accounting, public sector, or healthcare setting. Familiarity with fund accounting, GASB, or governmental accounting. Five years experience with accounting or ERP software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle, Workday). Hours: Full-Time Workdays: Monday - Friday Workhours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM Salary: $91,176.80 annually.
