Mechanical Designer
Perform planning studies, detailed analyses and designs, and construction services related to hydro-mechanical equipment associated with hydroelectric power plants. Participate in hydraulic turbine selection, cost estimating, equipment layout and coordination with other engineering disciplines during preliminary feasibility studies and during preliminary and final design. Support projects involving a multi-discipline group of engineers and technicians to provide technical engineering services to public and private sector clients including design work, field work and project management activities. Develop and provide project budget planning and project time management. Perform report and technical specification writing. Assist in contractor submittals and requests-for-information, perform shop inspections, develop inspection programs, and perform related technical engineering services during construction. Work on detailed Finite Element Analyses and Fatigue Assessments of hydro power equipment. 40 hours per week, M-F (9:00 a.m.5:00 p.m.). The salary range is $137,259 - $140,800 per year. Individuals in this position may be paid a discretionary bonus. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, & work location. Requirements: Must have a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and 7 years of post-bachelor's, progressive related work experience; OR a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and 5 years of related work experience. Of the required experience, must have 5 years of experience with the following: Finite Element Analysis in the power generation industry using ANSYS or ABAQUS; Hydroelectric power plants and water control structures including dams, spillways, intakes and outlets; Using standard computer applications including AutoCAD and Inventor; and Project reports, budget and schedule management, client interaction including client presentations, and scoping and marketing for hydroelectric clients. Telecommuting permitted 5 days a week. Travel to various locations throughout the US required up to 25%. Travel to various international locations required up to 5%.
