We are seeking a
Senior System Administrator - Network Operation Center
to support our federal government customer.
This is a hybrid remote position based in Suitland, Maryland, that will require some onsite work at the customer's location. This position is contingent on contract award.
Responsibilities
Perform review of Daily Check list to ensure services are running as expected. Monitor environment for system anomalies and performed root cause analysis as required. Document all changes to the test, operational and cloud environments in compliance with customer and Census practices. Implement Engineering Implementation Plans (EIPs) in support of change control process and system enhancements. Work both independently as well as in coordination with Systems administrators to maintain the smooth operation of a multi-user computer system. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations. Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations. Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware. Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records. Review user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to assess impact on network performance and provide advice and guidance on the most practical technical approach to meeting user requirements. Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Perform system backups and recovery. Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks as assigned. Required Experience and Skills
Minimum 8 years of advanced expertise in enterprise-level network and systems administration, ensuring mission-critical systems remain secure, resilient, and fully operational, required. Must possess key technical competencies that include: 1. Advanced Network Infrastructure Management - Skilled in configuring, monitoring, and optimizing complex network architectures, including switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers, in compliance with federal security frameworks (FISMA, RMF). 2. Proficient in implementing high-availability solutions to sustain 99.99% uptime across multiple geographically distributed sites. 3. Enterprise Systems Administration - Expert in managing Windows Server and Linux environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V). 4. Adept at ensuring systems integration with enterprise applications, leveraging automation tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, and Bash to streamline maintenance and patching. 5. Network Monitoring and Incident Response - Proficient in using enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, and Splunk to proactively detect, isolate, and remediate performance or security anomalies. 6. Experienced in developing and executing incident response playbooks to minimize downtime and protect mission-essential functions. 7. Cybersecurity and Compliance - Demonstrated ability to harden systems and enforce federal compliance requirements, including DISA STIGs and NIST 800-53 controls. 8. Skilled in vulnerability scanning (Tenable Nessus, Qualys), log analysis, and integration with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems to detect and mitigate threats in real time. 9. NOC Operations Leadership and Process Optimization - Experienced in leading 24x7 NOC operations, managing Tier 1-Tier 3 escalation workflows, and establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with ITIL best practices. 10. Adept at mentoring junior staff and optimizing operational processes to improve Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) and overall service delivery performance. Experience installing new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Experience performing system backups and recovery. Experience maintaining data files and monitoring system configuration to ensure data integrity. Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to work under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this related field. Ability to lead or direct others. Previous experience working at a federal government agency preferred. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to pass required Federal background screening/security check, including basic and expanded investigations. Ability to obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval. U.S. citizenship required. Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field required. Professional Certifications such as Security+ CE, CASP+, CISSP, or CCNP Security, Networking Certifications Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft / Windows Server Certifications Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, and/or ITIL 4 Foundation, highly desired. Physical Requirements
Candidates must reside in or within commutable distance of Suitland, Maryland. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Pay Range
The projected annual salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000 USD. Please note that the salary information listed is a good-faith estimate for this position and a general guideline only. Multiple factors are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications, and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
