About Crystal Bridges & The Momentary: Crystal Bridges is a museum of American art located in Bentonville, Arkansas. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate the American heritage and artistic possibilities. Founded by Alice Walton in 2005, the museum opened in 2011 and is a public, non-profit charitable organization with free admission. The Momentary is a contemporary art space that opened to the public on February 22, 2020, in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. Position Summary: The Curatorial Assistant works under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Curator of American Art and is responsible for providing curatorial and administrative support to the Assistant Curator, American Art and Assistant Curator, Modern Art. The Curatorial Assistant is an integral member of the curatorial team and will contribute to the curatorial vision. A strong interest in and experience with American art before 1960 is required. Principal Responsibilities: Assist Curators with research and content development for the ongoing exhibitions program that includes focus shows and large temporary exhibitions. Research permanent collection to build files and inform presentation and interpretation. Assist Curators with publications by locating images, securing copyright permissions, compiling research as directed, fact checking texts and backmatter, mailing catalogues to image and object lenders. Assist Curators with writing, including object label copy, wall texts, content guides for use internally, and catalogue entries. Research potential acquisitions and prepare acquisition proposals. Lead tours and deliver occasional gallery programs. Provide organizational support for curatorial projects, including calendar management and checklists. Manage incoming telephone calls, e-mail, and written correspondence for supervisor and others as directed. Assist with production, maintenance, and monitoring of Curatorial Department budgets and reporting activities. Respond to art offers and assist with written and e-mail correspondence. Facilitate incoming and outgoing loan requests. Coordinate department's interns and volunteers. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: B.A. in Art History or related discipline required Background in art history, with a strong interest in American art made before 1960 2 years work experience in museums, galleries, or other relevant art settings Demonstrated skill in organization and rigorous attention to detail Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft suite Manage multiple deadlines simultaneously Ability to work independently and as a team member Excellent oral and written communication skills Exemplary research and writing ability Demonstrated research skills Familiarity with cataloguing techniques Understanding and experience in budget maintenance Positive attitude and collaborative spirit Ability to maintain highest levels of confidentiality and discretion Prior training in museum database software a plus Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish a plus Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience will satisfy the minimum requirements. Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires verbal and written conversation with others, sitting, and use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision. Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and in communities served. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Position may require some independent overnight travel. Occasionally the work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
