Solid Waste Collections Unit Position

In this dynamic role, you'll play a key part in monitoring solid waste contracts and enforcing solid waste ordinance provisions, all while responding to customer inquiries and supporting the mission of the Solid Waste Collections Unit. Responsibilities include: Support the Compliance/Maintenance Specialist Tier III in monitoring daily solid waste collection operations and investigating non-compliance or violations. Collaborate with contractors and customers to resolve service complaints and improve operational performance. Conduct waste audits and help promote commercial waste reduction and recycling programs to increase diversion from landfill disposal. Oversee programs to increase county facility recycling rate and optimize solid waste services. Assist in designing educational materials and programs to improve business compliance with mandatory waste reduction and recycling ordinances. Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing training, industry research, and collaboration with vendors and county departments, and deliver presentations as needed. Work hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or its equivalent. Three (3) years total of related experience in inspections and/or monitoring for contract compliance. OR College or University level training in Solid Waste Management, Recycling, Business Management, Finance, or a highly related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required construction experience. Valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications: SWANA level training. Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
