1st Class Garage Mechanic

We are looking for a talented and mechanically inclined individual to join our team. The responsibilities of the 1st Class Garage Mechanic include inspecting vehicles, diagnosing, performing repairs, ordering parts, and taking inventory. As the 1st Class Garage Mechanic, you will be working with our experienced Senior Mechanic to maintain the operation of our transportation fleet and equipment. To be successful you should be good with your hands and have strong attention to detail. PRIMARY DUTIES: Assist Senior Mechanic Diagnose maintenance and repair problems on major components and systems such as: Engine Transmission Drivetrain Brake system Trailers (fuel tank) Air system Electrical system Perform repair and preventative maintenance work : Brakes Suspensions Clutch Cab Air conditioning Tires Engine Air systems Axles Fifth wheel Electrical system Wheels Transmission Differentials Fuel system Delivery equipment Drive train Frame ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: Perform all tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Maintain shop housekeeping Work closely with logistics supervisor, fleet manager, transportation manager, drivers and mechanics. Maintain tools, equipment and the shop in good condition always. Perform running repairs, PM services on tractors, trailers and straight trucks. Assist with State and Federal inspections on tractors, trailers, and straight trucks. Diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with major components. Test driving vehicles to determine problems and to ensure mechanical soundness after repairs have been made Oversee repair work done by outside vendors. Able to use company issued tablet, laptop and/or PC. Familiar with MS Office, troubleshooting, Samsara and SAP software. Maintain accurate records of PM services and repair work. Schedule repair work and state inspections. Occasionally assist with road service. Maintain and oversee parts and tire inventory. Order and acquire parts through vendors. Correctly code invoices and expenses Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options. Maintaining equipment fleet on neighbor island (25% travel) Performs other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works under regular shop and outdoor conditions Mechanic attire required including PPE. May be required to work from other terminal locations EQUIPMENT USE: Skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment WORK HOURS Monday-Friday: 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. May be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent reaching, use of eye-hand-foot coordination, depth perception, and wide field of vision for operating miscellaneous shop tools and equipment Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, walking and carrying up to 60 pounds. MENTAL DEMANDS: Demonstrates good independent judgement and organization of work assignments COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: Interacts positively with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Preferred Experience: 1-5 years of Heavy equipment and trailer maintenance and repair A general knowledge of the systems and components listed above Experience in dealing with parts and service vendors Experience maintaining vehicle maintenance records Experience with PM scheduling Education/Training: HS diploma or equivalency (required) Trade or Technical training or equivalency (required) Verified Master ASE certification (required) Must be able to acquire TWIC and government credentials Have or able to acquire state issued CDL.
