Seeking a Business Analyst for our Houston-based client for a long-term consulting opportunity. This will be a hybrid role requiring 3 days in the office. You will be a key influencer within the team, driving ideation through to delivery and implementation of solutions. You will work closely with business stakeholders to ensure decisions are fact-based, the team defines the vision, empathizes with the customer, prioritizes customer value, and maintains a well-groomed backlog that is fit for purpose and ready for development.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree or 5+ years experience as a Business Analyst
Proficient in Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid methodologies
2-3 years experience supporting Agile/Scrum efforts
Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups, including executives, managers, and subject matter experts
Experience with various business analysis techniques such as data modeling, feature decomposition, context diagrams, stakeholder analysis, state diagrams, wireframes, functional and non-functional requirements, use cases, business process definition, user stories, and backlog management
Scrum Master or Product Owner certification is a plus
IIBA or CBAP Business Analyst certification is a plus
Ability to champion the customer perspective
Experience in the utility industry is beneficial
Desired Skills & Experience What You Will Be Doing
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand key objectives and help define and transform them into scoped and sized business changes, including defining minimal viable product (MVP)
Establish a requirements management strategy, including elicitation, documentation standards, tools, meeting cadence, backlog grooming, review and approval processes, change management, and communication strategies
Elicit and document business requirements through vision statements, visual models, process flows, business objectives, goals, and success criteria
Elicit functional and non-functional requirements, documenting them as epics, stories, wireframes, business rules, and acceptance criteria
Build, organize, prioritize, and maintain the project backlog, often partnering with and mentoring the Business Lead/Product Owner
Facilitate ongoing backlog grooming, supporting the Product Owner in defining value, priority, and scope for upcoming releases and sprints
Collaborate with Product Owner, Business Users, and Technical Team to write and elaborate user stories with acceptance criteria and business rules
Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies such as stand-ups, demos, and sprint retrospectives
Review stories during sprint planning to ensure shared understanding of user stories and acceptance criteria
Analyze new stakeholder requests to determine if they are defects, new stories, modifications, or duplicates, and update the backlog accordingly
Maintain an overarching perspective on the project to understand how components fit together to deliver the overall solution
Perform functional testing during development sprints and review testing issues to identify bugs or expected behavior
Write user acceptance test (UAT) scripts and facilitate UAT
